flight training faqs
- Q: How much does flight training cost?
A: It varies, expect to pay around $150 per hour. A rough estimate would be $6,500-$10,00 to go from nothing to a Private Pilots License.
- Q: How many hours of flying are required to get a Private Pilots License?
A: 40 hours; however, expect it to take a few more.
- Q: Where can I learn to fly?
A: Flight schools are everywhere, make a call to your local airport and ask about flight schools at that particular airport.
- Q: What makes a good instructor?
A: This is purely my opinion and there is absolutely nothing that is proven... A good instructor will let you fly and isn't a control hog. A quality instructor will be calm, positive, supportive, tell you when you screw up, and won't charge you an arm and a leg for their time. If you're paying to do the preflight inspection or to simple speak to the instructor, jump ship immediately. If they seem to do it purely for the money chances are they could care less about seeing you succeed.
- Q: Why would I want to become a pilot?
A: Again, this is purely opinion; however, I feel most pilots will agree with me. You would become a part of a group of under 0.2% of the American population that can call themselves pilots, but that isn't what it is about... at all. Flying is challenging, fun, adventurous, and best of all, you're doing something people used to say would never happen. Flying is the ultimate freedom there is. The views are incredible, you get to travel, meet new people, and you learn a lot about yourself. Simply put, flying is amazing.
